Reading this article, A history of Internet Art was interesting and thought provoking looking back on this class as we, in a way, redirected how we think about art. For me, I have appreciated the views in this class that art is up to interpretation, imperfect and can be anything. This article reinforced those ideas for me in that the concept was entirely an accident. It started a movement of creating and expressing online that has exploded into what social media, video games, displaying art through interactivity, and now amazingly, AI generated art. I love the idea that someone coined the tern net.art on accident and it opened the door to so many artists. The range that net.art covers is impressive too. Spanning from online "détournements, discourse instead of singular texts or images, defined more by links, e-mails, and exchanges than by any “optical” aesthetic." It also integrates conversation and communication as part of the art which was a new feature to art that wasn't purely visual or audible. The article talks about how the net.art origin helped break the mold even more to break artists free of "bureaucratic control" which we still see happening today. Additionally, overtime internet art started to include the new technologies that have been created and implemented to everyday life including softwares and web browsing. One specific art piece that displayed this technique well was similar to the web adventure project we are working on now!
In conclusion, this art form allowed artists to express themselves in new ways and created a more playful and rebellious platform to present art to the world. I love that there are ways for people to express Ideas, humor, hobbies, music, thought and anything they want to on the internet where it lives for a long time. It's only a shame that it isn't permanent.
